The Scottish Association for the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language (SATEFL) provides a forum for teachers and student-teachers to meet and exchange ideas on ELT. Each year SATEFL holds a joint conference with other associations who have similar aims and interests. This year SATEFL is joining with the British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes (BALEAP) to run a joint conference on the theme 'New Approaches to Materials Development for Language Learning'.

There are four keynote speakers covering the topic from very different perspectives. As well as a full programme of presentations, we hope to have a wide variety of poster displays so we would encourage delegates to consider presenting their innovative classroom materials in this way. A conference programme and abstracts are now available.

The conference will be held in the James Watt Conference Centre at Heriot-Watt University from 15th to 17th April 2005. Participants will be accommodated in halls of residence on the university’s parkland campus. There will be a social programme, including a ceilidh on Saturday night with music provided by the lively fiddle rhythms of an all-woman band, The Belle Stars.

Call for Papers

The call for papers has closed and the programme of 65 presentations is now available. However, there is still time to submit posters describing practical classroom ideas.
